Peace Practices

The Prayer of Saint Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred . . . let me sow love
Where there is injury . . . pardon
Where there is doubt . . . faith
Where there is despair . . .hope

Where there is darkness . . . light
where there is sadness . . . joy
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled . . .as to console
To be understood . . .as to understand,

To be loved . . . as to love
For it is in giving . . .that we receive,
It is in pardoning, that we are pardoned,

It is in dying . . .that we are born to eternal life.

The Tibetan Practice of Phowa

The word Phowa means the transference or ejection of consciousness into the state of truth.

Phowa is a practice which is not just for the moment of death. It also helps to purify ourselves and it can be used to assist in emotional or physical clearing and healing and centering.

With all your heart, invoke in the sky before you the presence of a Divine Being for whom you feel a devotion. See the form of this Presence, not as flesh and blood, but alive as radiant light, gazing toward you with kindness and love. Allow yourself to relax deeply and establish a personal connection with this Presence you have invoked.

Calling out

Open yourself now, and acknowledge the aspects of your being that need purification, forgiveness, and blessing. Become aware of any places in your body where there is dis-ease and recognize any doubts, fears, or old wounds in your heart that need healing and love. Then call out sincerely to the Divine Presence in front of you and ask for help.

Receiving the blessing

Immediately this Divine Presence responds, sending love and compassion from his or her heart in a stream of tremendous rays of light directly into your being. Allow these powerful rays to penetrate you and purify you–filling you with forgiveness, healing energy, confidence and unconditional love. Consider that these brilliant light rays of compassion and love dissolve all of your fears and defenses, so that you are totally immersed in light. Now your being in the form of light rises up and dissolves into the heart of this Divine Presence–completely mixing with it, like light mixing with light. Remain in this peaceful state as long as you can. If thoughts rise, or a “sense of self” begins to form, simply allow them to dissolve back into emptiness.

At the conclusion, consider that your awareness is once again centered within your body. Resolve to continue the presence of pure, clear awareness as you enter into daily activities. And when you notice that you have lost it, gently bring your mind home to its true nature, again and again.

Essential Phowa for others

You can do the Essential Phowa for someone who is ill or dying, in exactly the same way as for yourself, except that you visualize a Divine Presence above the head of the other person, following the same process.

Techniques for Working with Reactive Behavior The Ego Mind Version of Working with Shadow

The first requirement for freedom is to take full responsibility for your suffering! No one outside yourself is “causing” your suffering! If you are in blame, reaction, anger, sadness, control, denial, separation, judgment, YOU are the cause of your suffering. Someone else is just playing a part in your movie that activates your reaction. They are not responsible for it, you are!

Any given situation could be responded to in ten different ways by ten different people. You ARE always at choice as to the response or reaction you choose. You are not the victim of your emotions or life circumstances. When you stop pointing the finger outward in righteous indignation, and own your position in the reactive behavior, you are half way to the healing of the reaction. Notice the cause and effect relationship between your addictions and your apparent or seeming unhappiness, suffering etc. Your addictions were a means of coping with your suffering as a child, when you didn’t have the means to make better choices. This is an opportunity to reverse those decisions by making better ones.

It is a little known fact that when the body is in reaction there are rampant chemicals running in the body that actually make change at the level of neuropeptides at the cellular level more possible. During the reaction is a powerful time to reprogram the belief that is subconsciously shaping the reactive behavior.

When you are IN the reactive behavior pattern, ask yourself these questions until you hit the one that gives you an “ah ha” response. Keep answers simple and child-like, which is the level at which the behavior pattern went into operation. Keep this list handy for bringing awareness where you usually shut it out and go on to automatic pilot.

  1. What am I feeling at this moment?
  2. What am I telling myself? (What internal dialog am I hearing? What message is playing on my tape loop?)
  3. What would I like to be hearing instead of that message?
  4. What do I want?
  5. What past events programmed this addictive, reactive behavior? or How is
    my past coloring my present?
  6. What am I getting out of staying stuck?
  7. What am I rejecting in the here and now? In myself?
  8. What threat does this situation symbolically represent?
  9. What is my worst fantasy of what could happen here?
  10. How is the issue of control involved in this? (relational) 11. What is not being said that needs to be said? (relational) 12. What agreements have I broken? (relational)

Essence Witness Techniques for Working with Reactive Behaviors

  1. Acknowledge the emotional reaction without judgment
  2. Re-parent, nurture the inner child that had the reaction, with statements like “I am totally here for you. I love you. I will never leave you.”
  3. Forgive everyone who was involved with the wounding. No content is necessary, known or unknown causes.
  4. Transmute the wounding with this statement: “ I open myself to the total transmutation of the cause, the effect, the record and the memory of this place in myself that I had not, until this moment, loved into wholeness.
  5. Offer gratitude to your soul or Witness for bringing this shadow reaction to awareness and wholing.

Mantra raises body consciousness into seed crystal mind.

Om Shanti Shanti Shanti Om

Peace in body, peace in mind, piece in speech or spirit.

“The meaning of the word mantra: man: reflective consciousness: the wings of love or liberation. Mantra in Sanskrit is knowledge of the power of sound. Mantras are energy based sounds deriving their power from the energy effect the sounds produce. According to acoustic research and alchemy, our bodies are raised in frequency by resonating with seed mantras. Singing and chanting are thus a creative act of raising vibration. Many different spiritual traditions believe that mantras are a kind of wireless communication with the Divine powers of creation. NADA is the soundless sound, the no-thing and all things out of

which sound arises.

The Mantra OM (aum) is one of the most powerful of all mantras. It is the unmanifest nature and power of the Universe. “Ah” is waking consciousness “u” is dream consciousness and “m” is the consciousness that embraces and transcends all worlds and states of being. “Hrim” is the sound of the immanence of the Goddess, the formless made manifest. Mantras provide a natural means of returning one’s system to alignment, coherence and balance. They can be used to dislodge old patterns, literally vibrating them free.” Ariel Spilsbury

Flower of Life Geometry:

Some believe that it represents the unity of all life and the interconnectedness of all beings. Others see it as a symbol of the cycle of life, death, and rebirth and that it’s symbolic of the union of the sacred masculine and the divine feminine.

Violet Flame of Transmutation:

Use the violet flame. Evoke the flame and affirm: “Beloved Divine Light, I open to receive the complete healing of the cause, effect, record and memory of any part of myself that I have not, until this moment, loved into wholeness. I blaze the violet fire through and around my etheric, mental, emotional and physical bodies and through every cell, atom and organ, clearing all that may be out of alignment with Divine out-picturing.”

Allow the violet flame to assist you in forgiving, healing and letting go of all lesser realities! There is nothing to do. There is only relaxing and surrendering more deeply into Love. The violet flame is creating the opportunity for Divine Cause to more fully be anchored in planetary consciousness. Just be the Love and embody the violet fire! The miracle will be manifested on Earth. Your love is creating it to be so!” Ariel Spilsbury

The Violet Flame of Transmutation

I breathe in the violet flame
The violet luminosity breathes me
of what used to be.
I breathe in the violet essence
The violet essence becomes me
Blazing through the illusions of third dimensional reality
Burning away accumulations of karmic debris
Revealing the power of the Grace
which sets me free.
I dance the violet energy
The violet energy whirls and dances me
Now, behold, I soar within,
In limitless light
In violet ecstasy.
My atoms and cells respond to the clarion call:
Purify, clear, release, forgive,
Make room to enthrone the Cosmic Self
in the expanding space of the
new Universes held within.
In cell and sinew,
let interstellar genesis begin!
In the forgiving violet fires
I am unbound
In violet transmutation I die
To be reborn
In transparency.
With innocence and trust
I surrender to the flames of freedom
Gratefully, Joyfully
Do I receive this gift of Divine Grace
Held potently within the Violet Flames’ embrace!
In the name of the One it is done! Blessed Be!
